Public housing is a low-cost place to live that's subsidized by the government. Public housing is provided for people who have trouble affording an apartment or house.

Most public housing is built in clusters of apartments or townhouses, or as high-rise buildings in denser cities. Families that struggle to pay for housing can benefit from public housing that's funded by the city, state, or federal government. The first public housing was built in London around the turn of the twentieth century, but the idea didn't become widespread until after World War II.
